Well, Hello!

Well, Hello!

Hi, I'm James!

I'm a web developer based between London and the South Coast (Isle of Wight, if you're asking).

I specialise in creating immersive, accessible and SEO friendly websites that not only look pretty but perform to best practices. I'm someone who strives to surpass client expectations and leave the internet in a slightly better place than how I found it.

If you're looking for someone who can help you in the long run, I'm the web partner you never realised you were missing.

Over the years I've worked in various areas of media, music production, photography, web and product design. I enjoy working closely with my clients to learn from them and bring my creative problem solving to the table. When not writing code and working with design teams, I'm usually on the water sailing, boating or Stand Up Paddleboarding in the Solent. I'm also partial to cycling on the road and gravel. My other interests are in art, photography and music. I'm enjoy time in the kitchen, without becoming a foodie bore.

I'm currently based between London and the Isle of Wight allowing for a healthy balance of work, fun and Deliveroo (thankfully). While I run a business, if you require little old me on my own for your projects- that's fine. I'm flexible in my costings and if it's not for me, I can find a good match for you from my network of friends and colleagues. Don't be shy!

Currently:

At present I am the director of a small web/software agency, Is it meant to do that? Ltd; we are a close knit team producing best in class products for marine finance, websites for the automotive, leisure, marine and healthcare industry, with a sprinkling of architecture, intellectual property, magazines and some product design.

Notable Work:

Bits and pieces I quite liked, in no particular order:

Direct Line For Business Insurance Wizard

I developed the UI for the DL4B insurance wizard single handed. Providing the markup, javascript and all public facing code including the fuzzy logic to ensure the process of insuring your business was as simple as possible.

Example screen of Aston Martin Heritage Racing

Aston Martin

Is it Meant To Do That? designed and built Aston Martin's Heritage Racing website with e-commerce functionality, hospitality systems and track information as well as showcasing the heritage and prestige of the AMHR events and Aston Martin's brand.

Three

Building a literally all singing, all dancing parallax single page website for Three Mobile's MVNO Network offerings. I was tasked with building this to be responsive as well as supporting some near impossible backwards compatibility for archaic Internet Explorer versions at the time. The website was completed on time and delighted shareholders and visitors alike.

NHS/MyWay Diabetes

Is it Meant To Do That? provides support, development and hosting to the NHS AHSN network with MyWay Diabetes offers training for patients and healthcare professionals. Part of this also includes short window training camps, entailing a whole lot of AWS infrastructure love to allow for a large amount of concurrent users to sail through their training and obtain certification. On top of this I've created several systems including the NHS GP lookup system.

Direct Line Group Brand Guidlines

I built the Direct Line Group brand guidelines site for agencies and in-house Direct Line Digital teams to reference DLG brand guidelines in a traditional sense as well as for digital teams to understand the use of web components and the usage of Zurb Foundation, complete with working examples, mixins and PDF downloads for offline use.
